Minnesota State Employer Partnership with Ziegler CAT

Minnesota State Employer Partnership with Ziegler CAT

(dramatic instrumental notes) (upbeat music) [Jeremy Mattson] Ziegler CAT is a Caterpillar dealer. We have territories in
Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Missouri. We have 31 branch locations. The core purpose of the
Ziegler Rebuild Center is to support those rebuild operations from a component level. The work that our technicians are doing is extremely specialized. So when we’re hiring
a potential technician for this facility, we need
an acute attention to detail. Through attrition we
have recognized the need that we need to start
bringing new technicians in. So Ziegler has a wonderful partnership with Minnesota State. We work with a handful
of schools through the Minnesota State system
and working with the schools and having the internship
program really lets us hone those skills, side-by-side,
with that technician at an internship level before we make a decision to hire them. We hold this relationship
in extremely high regards. If I walk through this shop right now, probably 60% of the technicians that currently work here,
have come up through the internship program. [Breanna Horacek] Because of the internship
and the partnership through Alex Tech and
Ziegler, I ended up getting hired before I graduate. Employer partnerships
like this are important because it makes it a lot
easier for kids in college to actually talk to someone, communicate and it definitely helps. [Jeremy] I would recommend that other industries and other businesses
partner with Minnesota State because we’ve gotten so
many high quality people from the school system. These kids are coming into our facility with the building blocks
that we feel are required to train them at a specialized level.
